Gasfin signs landmark project development agreement with Government of Republic of Trinidad & Tobago for Caribbean LNG
Port of Spain, January 29th 2015: Gasfin Development SA, Caribbean LNG Ltd, National Energy and Ministry of Energy & Energy Affairs today announced they have signed a project development agreement (PDA) for a mid-scale LNG production facility to be constructed in La Brea, South Trinidad. The project will produce 0.5 to 1.0 million metric tons LNG per annum for export by ship or container to power generators across the region. Ideally suited to loading smaller LNG vessels and servicing smaller LNG demand centres Caribbean LNG is a key piece of infrastructure to address the ambition of many Caribbean islands to switch to clean, efficient natural gas as their primary fuel of power generation.
As well as generating new foreign direct investment and local employment, the project will confirm the position of Trinidad and Tobago as a global pioneer in mid-scale LNG and cement its role as a regional energy hub. It is anticipated that the project will reach a final investment decision over the next 9-12 months, with first LNG expected late 2018/early 2019.
